Medplum v5 has earned Drummond Validated™ – FHIRplace Silver (CRD) status for both provider and payer roles in the Q3 2026 testing cycle. The validation recognizes confirmed interoperability with multiple partners for Coverage Requirements Discovery (CRD) in a structured, production-representative FHIR testing environment.

From Participation to Validation

In July, we announced our participation in FHIRplace. We have now achieved Silver CRD validation in two distinct tested roles. Drummond determined both statuses on October 1, 2026:

Product and versionRoleValidation ID
Medplum v5ProviderFP-2026-Q3-001
Medplum v5PayerFP-2026-Q3-002

FHIRplace evaluates exchanges between participating systems through a testing matrix. For Medplum, the validated workflow is CRD: discovering a payer's coverage requirements during a provider's ordering workflow. Testing in both roles exercises Medplum on each side of that exchange.

The validation is specific to Medplum v5, these two roles, CRD, the Silver tier, and Q3 2026. Other versions, use cases, and later quarters are outside its scope. Validation records and testing reports are available on Drummond's FHIRplace Validated Products and Participants page. This validation does not represent an endorsement by any governing body.

Supporting Prior Authorization Implementations

This milestone provides interoperability evidence for teams building CRD workflows with Medplum. Our CMS-0057-F compliance page includes the validation seal and details alongside the payer requirements. Our separate HTI-4 page explains the ONC certification criteria.

Medplum is pursuing ONC certification for all three ePA criteria: CRD, Documentation Templates and Rules (DTR), and Prior Authorization Support (PAS). We have not announced a certification timeline. The FHIRplace CRD validation is separate from that certification work and does not establish DTR or PAS validation or comprehensive CMS-0057-F compliance.
